New Zealand legislation


In New Zealand there are a number of various statutes which relate specifically to the insurance industry. These include:

  • Insurance Companies (Ratings and Inspection) Act 1994
  • Insurance Companies Deposits Act 1953
  • Insurance Law Reform Act 1977
  • Insurance Law Reform Act 1985

There are also various pieces of general consumer legislation designed to protect consumers' interests. These include:

  • Fair Trading Act 1986
  • Consumer Guarantees Act 1993
  • Human Rights Act 1993
  • Privacy Act 1993
  • Disputes Tribunals Act 1998
